Couldn’t stop myself from baking some of the little ’snowball’ cookies we always look forward to at Christmas each year. They are such a common cookie in many families, I’ve found, and the recipes are very, very similar. My mother always cooked them until they were ‘done’, with no soft doughy center, and that’s the way I prefer them to this day. I’ve had the ‘other’ kind, hee hee, and I never go for that 2nd cookie. That would be one way to make them last longer around here, though! I’m also going to bake some of those ’scotchy’ oatmeal cookies for my dad. They aren’t really a holiday cookie, but he loves them so much, and I know he’ll appreciate having them. He is in a skilled nursing facility here in town, and, while the care is excellent, the food is not, and the desserts and cookies are the worst. We also like to share our baked goodies with Don’s parents, who also live in town (recently!) in a retirement village. I’ve found this is one way I can get the pleasure of baking without having to eat all of it myself. Once the kids were grown, it left only me to eat it all! Not good. Not good at all.
