Don’t Pay the Ransom, Mom – Dog Makes Daring Escape!

This beautiful German Shepherd, stinking of SKUNK, and wearing no collar, looked at me with her soulful eyes and I HAD TO STOP AND RESCUE HER. Seriously. No one ELSE was stopping for her and the question wasn’t IF but WHEN one of the speeding cars would hit her. Three days later, deskunkerized and I thought happy, she broke out and made a mad dash for home, leaving behind a seriously bent up window screen and a hole you could drive a truck through under our wooden gate. In ten days no one had responded to the Found posters I plastered all over the area. We can only hope she found her way home. Maybe she’ll send a cleanup crew to fix this screen . . .
Seriously, though, prior to her escape, we contacted shelters in the area and discovered to our horror that NONE were no-kill. And there was no German Shepherd Rescue active anywhere near our town. Since we couldn’t keep another dog, I don’t know what we would have done had she not taken her fate into her own hands. What other avenues did I miss?
