Last month we were driving through the Oklahoma panhandle during a torrential rainstorm. The area had been parched and dry for weeks, but that day the heavens opened up and dumped water for hours on end. We had to pull off the road three times to avoid near-death experiences with oncoming traffic. Let those other crazy drivers speed on through. God only knows how they were seeing the road in front of them, maintaing 60 mph, and managing to keep their vehicles under control! Finally, after 45 minutes of white-knuckle driving, just south of Woodward the rain morphed into a heavy sprinkle–now THAT we can deal with! But, oh my gosh! What IS that in the road ahead? It LOOKS like a huge piece of rubber peeled from a semi tire, but IT’S MOVING ACROSS THE ROAD toward the bar ditch. Everyone in the car was shocked to see an actual ALLIGATOR, about 4′ long, making its way from ponds on the east side of the road to ponds on the west side of the road. That’s just plain scary! We’ve pondered the how’s and why’s but guess we’ll never have closure on that story. To be sure, we’re all keeping an eye on any reports of mysterious disappearances, mutilations, or deaths of livestock and small animals up in Woodward.

Naturally I didn’t have my camera when I needed it, and I want to share my fear of these beasties by showing you a photo to remind you how cute and cuddly they are! So take a look at this one!
