Free! New & Improved Rounded Corner Action for Photoshop CS, CS2, CS3, and CS3 Extended
filed in Free Photoshop Actions on Nov.18, 2008

Okay! Today I am going to share with you my Action Set of three actions for rounding corners on photos. This set includes an Action for Landscape, Portrait, and Square orientations, and includes easy to follow prompts. Expanding the process into three Actions means there will be no need to rotate the matte to match the orientation of your photo. Again, these are designed to work equally well on 72ppi and 300 ppi resolution photos and papers, because that is what I use. I have found that you will always get a nicer result, however, if you have sized the photo close to the final resolution and size that you want prior to running the Action. That way the corners will be cleaner and smoother than they would be if you ran the Action first, then resized. Later today or tomorrow I’ll be uploading a video showing how to use the Actions for those who like a little visual demonstration.

Hi Janet,
Thank-you so much for posting these actions! And for free! You are so generous! I just have one question. After I press control+t and then shift to resize and resize my project, all the steps after the rasterize layer disappear and the action will not complete from that point on. Any ideas?

thank youuuuu rocked

Penny, which action are you using? I don’t know what would cause the steps to disappear….are you using Photoshop CS or which?

Just another thank you for your action – never managed to do this and your action is exactly what I wanted to achieve, very many thanks for your generosity.

Thank you! Boy does this action speed up the process. Great job.

Thank you very very much! This is very helpful!
Once I resized it the way I wanted it to be…I played/pressed the action button again to continue.
PS I was having the same problem as Penny—once i hit ctrl t——nothing would happen. So what i did was at that point i went to the top tool bar, went to “edit”, “transform path”, “scale”. And I was able to resize the mask.
Hope this helps others who are having the same problem!
Chao!

Hi, Virginia! Thank you for visiting my blog! The tutorial and actions are for Photoshop, so yes, you do need to have that program for them to work! We do have a template for rounded corners in our Templates/Actions section of the store, that you can use with any program that uses PNG files and layers/transparency. You can open the template and use it to clip your photos, giving them rounded corners. Hope this helps! DeeDoo

Thanks so much for this action! I love it! The only problem is, could you tell me how I keep the background transparent, instead of the white background? Thanks
September 1st, 2010 on 3:33 pm
Soot! I should mention that I am saving it as a png file and still coming up with white around the corners….I have tried everything possible to correct this. I really appreciate your time

Alyson, I emailed you privately to work on this, but wanted to add some info here for others who may have a similar issue. Always be sure that you are NOT flattening the file when saving (this was not Alyson’s problem, btw). Even if your finished rounded corner photo appears on a clear background, it will not be on a clear background unless saved either as a psd (not flattened) or as a png file. In order to get it to appear on my website with rounded corners, I take an additional step and place a white background behind the rounded corner photo, since my website background is white. I then trim the entire file leaving a border of white outside the rounded corners, but just a very slim border. I then flatten the file and save for web. When I upload the photo to my website, it shows the rounded corners while the slim white border simply blends in with the website background. If your website background is black, you would back the photo with a slim black border, etc. I hope this helps anyone having similar difficulties! Janet

Hey! Thank you so much for posting this, I am so excited to use this action again and again. Everything is perfect until at the end I am left with the white background, I don’t know how to go about removing that? Thanks again!

I did a video tutorial for this action and it is posted on youtube. You can watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jz1-lZZeoM
Follow it exactly and the action should turn out correctly.
