It’s Movie Time! WANTED – Starring James McAvoy, Morgan Freeman, and Angelina Jolie – Fantasy Crime Drama – 2 Out Of 5 Stars
filed in Movietime on Dec.13, 2008

Save your money. Don’t rent this video! I love action movies, and I don’t mind if they are on the fantasy, far-fetched, suspend your belief system variety, either. But this one goes so far beyond the edge, it’s just not even fun to watch.
You get a formulaic story of a downtrodden, depressed, ‘loser’ in a dead-end job surrounded by people he hates who don’t respect him. But wait, his father, who left when he was only 7 days old, is a ‘super-assassin’ with amazing abilities. Oh, and guess what, the kid has the knack, too. Surprise, surprise. Oh, oh, and the kid has to learn to do all the stuff his father did because he is the only one ‘good enough’ to defeat his father’s killer. (Oh, yeah, his dad’s dead, a victim himself of an assassin).
I love Morgan Freeman. And Angelina Jolie can act, when the occasion demands it. This movie felt like they phoned in their lines. James McAvoy did do a very good job as Wesley, the downtrodden son, as he gains confidence and assasin skills. He really WAS the star of the show, and I am sure we will see him again. But this story is just the worst. I almost turned the DVD off when they tell you that there is a secret code in some woven fabric that can be decoded to tell them who the next ‘target’ is for their self-appointed death squad. I wish I had. At least I wouldn’t have lost the hour and fifty minutes I spent watching it AND my money.
