We have been in the process of migrating all of my graphics files and programs to a new computer, plus setting up a server with a ton of storage that we can access from all of our networked computers. We have a mixed house of PC’s and Macs, and they don’t always play nice. What will work with one operating system totally doesn’t work with the other, programs have different interfaces and shortcuts, and many other differences that add to the list of things to remember when switching from a mac to a pc, or vice versa.

Don has done all the techie work, of course, as he always does. To hear him grumble and gripe at the computers (as if THEY care), you would think he hates his role as tech support. In fact, he loves it, considers every obstacle a challenge, and always rises to meet and solve these challenges. It is what he does at work, as well, so he is always in the middle of a muddle, whether there or here at home. Poor guy gets almost no time off from those types of headaches.

I find that I want to work from ONE computer, rather than using different computers for different things. The server has proved to be a huge help by allowing both of us to access files regardless of whether we are working on a mac or pc. This has helped me get closer to my ‘one computer for everything’ dream. Trouble is, each system has its good points and bad points, and some programs just aren’t made for both operating systems. So, we will have to continue to learn both systems, probably for a long time to come. Might as well accept it, I guess. Takes too much energy not to!
