Clutter and Pet Odors Don’t Have to Make Your Home Off Limits!
filed in Misc on May.15, 2009
There are family members on both sides that refuse to invite others into their homes because of ‘clutter’ or ‘pet odors’.
As the owner of five cats, I certainly understand the ‘odor’ concern! However, we have overcome the issue by maintaining multiple kitty litter boxes and cleaning them daily. We have never had an issue with odor, and, believe me, I would know, having the tremendous sense of smell that I do.
The ‘clutter’ issue is also one I’ve had to fight, and it is a creeping, constant nuisance. You can’t just give up or it will quickly overtake every room in the house. Beyond the everyday paper, magazine, and bill/mail clutter, there is also the issue of ‘stuff I can’t throw away’ clutter. This is one I aim to tackle and win (this time) shortly. I’m ashamed to admit that I have unpacked boxes from our last move (almost TWO years ago) that need to be dealt with ‘now’. I am actually looking forward to the task, since it will be like a treasure hunt, finding things I forgot I had. So, if I could live without them for close to two years, perhaps I can toss them or donate items to someone who really can use them. That’s my plan. Wish me luck.
There are lots of reasons people live in their own clutter–some can be serious mental health issues. Fortunately, our clutter hasn’t invaded our home to the point we don’t want to have folks in. Far from it. We look forward to each visit from friends and family. Our problem is how much smaller the house seems when company comes and our dogs are inside, too. Now that is something else I need to work on…..
