Sometimes You Get What You Want When You Don’t Expect It!

We’ve been in our rented house for two years, but we’ve had so much going on within the family and at work that we haven’t had time to look for a home to buy. In early June we decided to begin looking at homes in the area to get an idea what is available at the different price levels. We didn’t plan to purchase a home for some time, but we wanted to know a good deal when we ran across it. We thought that would take a long time.
When you aren’t really wanting something, just looking, and there is no desperation or eagerness to find exactly the right thing, well, in my experience that’s exactly when the perfect thing comes along. There is just something about not pushing for something, just putting the thought ‘out there’ that causes the perfect thing to become available.
That’s exactly what happened in our house hunting. No matter that we had just renewed our lease for a third year, the perfect house popped up anyway. Our landlord graciously let us out of our renewal (albeit keeping all of the hefty deposit cash!), and we will be moving into our new home in a couple of weeks.
So I am now watching craigslist for various perfect items I want for the new place. A few things have already appeared, but I’m waiting for something that is exactly what I have in mind. I have the time to wait, and one thing I’ve already seen is that there is no end to items being posted, so even if I miss out on one thing, something else will be posted that I will like as well, or maybe even better!
One kind of sad thing is we will not be using our above-ground swimming pool, as the new house has an inground pool (bonus!). We have enjoyed our Intex pool so much, we feel a kind of loyalty to it! But both our 12′ pool from last year and the new 18′ pool will find new homes with some of our kids, and we know they will provide happy times to them and the grandkids next summer.
So once again we are going through our belongings, packing boxes and discarding things we haven’t used. Not my favorite thing to do, but this time we hope we will be staying put for awhile!
