Remembering Winter 2010

Winter2010&Dogs

These photos show the tons of snow we enjoyed last winter. I should say the dogs enjoyed. The three larger dogs have thick, woolly coats in the winter, and they are ready to wear them out romping and playing in the frigid temperatures. The little terrier has very short, sleek fur, but he tries not to let that cramp his action with the others. We have to make him cut playtime short for his own good. He does get his time to shine, though, when summer arrives. While the other three swelter in their hot wool, he buzzes around cool as a cucumber in his buzzcut. All of them keep us entertained with their antics. I don’t know what we would do without them!

Our dogs basking in the summer sunshine

The summer heat does slow them all down some, but they love to lie in the grass and sun themselves for brief periods. And they still romp and play together, but the tongues are hanging and dripping in no time, and they drink gallons of water – it’s truly amazing how much the shepherd can hold, especially.

Summer is winding to a close. Although it’s still in the 80′s here, and some days in the 90′s as well, it won’t be long before the nights and early morning hours will be brisk. Once again the boys will be putting on their winter coats and start walking with that old spring in their step as they anticipate the next walk.

You Can Complete Baby Scrapbook Pages Quickly With Baby Album Digital Scrapbooking Kit

My friend Ann’s granddaughter is turning one year old this month, and Ann is ready to celebrate and commemorate. She decided to create as many digital scrapbook layouts as she could to memorialize this important first year of the life of this sweet baby. She settled on two projects that will use digital scrapbook kits from our shop.

For the first project she is creating a digital baby scrapbook album in classic baby-girl pink. Since she has a second project in the wings and not a lot of time, she decided to use the Classic Baby Album-Soft Pink, shown below. Click on the photo below to buy this digital baby album for yourself!

Classic Baby Album-Soft Pink

This digital album pak for making baby scrapbook page layouts includes 13 template pages and coordinated ‘die-cut’ alpha, a journaling block, title page, and blank pages. You don’t have to come up with scrapbooking ideas or scrapbook page layouts on your own with this kit! Ann was thrilled. She and her daughter had faithfully taken photos monthly during the baby’s first year, so she simply had to slide each photo under the appropriate template opening, pen some heartfelt sentiments, and another month – DONE!

The completed album is ready to print, but Ann also wants to share it online with other family members, which is very simple to do since the entire album was created digitally. Everyone wants to enjoy the album, but not everyone wants to have a printed copy, and Ann can share while saving money on printing.

One of the digital layouts Ann said inspired her to try the Classic Baby Album Pak is pictured below. Click HERE or on the photo below to see more examples of the template pages available in the kit.

Ann has already started on the second project, so she is well on the way to getting her photo albums completed in time for the baby’s first birthday!

Do you have photos of your new baby that need to be scrapped? Are you overwhelmed with the sheer number of photos you’ve taken? Buy the Classic Baby Albums, available in pink AND blue, HERE and see for yourself how quickly you can turn your photos into a beautiful memory album!

Do You Know What Your Children Are Texting?

There was an interesting article on CNN today about the lingo the kids (anyone younger than me!) are using to shorten their text entries. Some of the abbreviations are easy to decipher, e.g., ‘gr8′ means ‘great’, ‘ttyl’ means ‘talk to you later’, and so on. However, those are by far the simplest and most innocuous of all. Kids have come up with what almost amounts to a new language, albeit a TEXT language, in their efforts to communicate rapidly. It’s truly amazing. But what is not so cool is the dark side of this phenomenon. Yes, like everything in life, it seems, this, too has a dark side. That side involves abbreviations and code used to talk about drugs, sex, and more; coded so parents, especially, won’t realize what the kids are discussing, often right under their parents’ noses.

A guy started a website a couple of years ago devoted to translating text messages for those who don’t get the lingo. So you can learn it, too, and be able to understand what is going on; you can be with-it, plus you can be informed and not totally blindsided by some creepy type trying to move in on your kids.

Another Milestone

Squash

Gammy recently celebrated her 89th birthday. Wow. It is funny how time marches onward, with or without us, and with our without our blessing. Many of the things that occur during our lives are the result of luck, while others result from actions we take, but either way, we live with the results, good or bad.

Gammy has been fortunate in so many ways. Her husband returned alive and well from WWII, unlike so many others who did not. Together they raised four kids and lived to see them as adults with families of their own. She has been blessed with good health, overall, and what wasn’t so good has been improved with the help of modern medical science. Ah, progress.

She lost Papa three years ago, and it has been a sometimes difficult adjustment for her to live without him – he was her rock, our rock – but she is strong and has made it through. She is now the rock of the family, and we all love her so.

She would deny that she is the strong one now, but she was always strong. She has made choices throughout her life that impacted her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Because she chose to be a good parent and a good person, all of us who followed never had to think about what was right or wrong – we just knew. It makes doing the right thing second nature, and it has saved all of us from many pitfalls throughout our lives. It is really true that the sins of the fathers are visited upon the children, but then, so are the virtues.

So celebrating Gammy’s 89th birthday truly is a celebration for all of us. The good luck and good choices she made, together with our shared love for each other, continues to be our greatest gift.
